About Billy
Described by Rick Allen of Vintage Guitar magazine as "scary good", Billy White, Jr. is a Texas born and based guitarist, singer, songwriter and producer.
Growing up listening to his father’s modest collection of country albums he took in all the classics from Hank Williams and Jim Reeves to Johnny Cash, Marty Robbins and Merle Haggard while still hearing the Beatles, Cream and all the great pop/rock music on 60’s radio. Around Junior High he discovered Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Freddie King, Deep Purple, The Allman Brothers and all the classic rock from the 70’s.
Wood-shedding for hours on end in his room he tried to master all the nuances and phrasings of the players and singers he respected and admired. Going on to study music at North Texas in Denton he played guitar and sang full time through the 80’s while working with various bands, backing such artists at Lou Christie, The Shirelles & The Dallas Cowboys, doing recording sessions and solo shows in a wide range of styles all the while refining his craft.
After taking time off to raise a family, Billy started playing music again in 1998. In 1999 he landed a gig in the house band at the Johnny High Country Music Revue. There he was fortunate enough to work with artists such as Leann Rimes, Steve Holy,
Wanda Jackson & Barbara Fairchild. He also had the privilege of playing for some of the earliest appearances of Kacey Musgraves,
Maren Morris, Miranda Lambert and Scott Hoying.
At the same time he built up his home studio to the point where he could record seriously in it. He produced three albums for others before releasing his first in 2010. Titled “Just Another Guitar Player From Texas” the record contained twelve original songs and two covers that ranged from rock to R&B to country to blues and acoustic ballads reflecting the wide range of writing and performing that Billy has covered. Upon hearing that record Vintage Guitar Magazine described Billy as "one of the best guitar players you've never heard".
His second album, “Just Another Sad Ol’ Song” was released in 2012 and takes a turn down a winding country road. Loaded with steel, fiddles, mandolin and plenty of twang it features nine original songs and one classic cover. It garnered good reviews in Europe as well as Vintage Guitar calling this one "spectacular"!
Billy’s third album, “It’s About Time” released February 1, 2019 is described as classic rock and blues with a side of R&B. In other words, this one isn’t country, it rocks! It features 10 new original songs and LOTS of great guitar work.
Don’t know what the next record will be but you can count on one thing.......it’ll be different.
